White Building Enters New Phase
White Building, an award-winning multi-let office building in Central Southampton has unveiled its latest initiative in sustainable urban development with the installation of new solar panels. This latest project signifies our commitment to utilising renewable energy along with our core principals of enhancing the tenant working environment through thoughtful renovation and repurposing of existing buildings.
Nearly 100 solar panels are projected to generate close to 40,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually, substantially reducing our office building’s reliance on traditional grid electricity. This will not only reduce carbon emissions but also provide a greener building for the environment and companies that work there.
Our core commitment is to create sustainable developments through the repurposing of existing buildings and infrastructure instead of resorting to conventional demolition and reconstruction. By retrofitting office buildings with solar panels, this helps improve the environmental credentials of these buildings whilst also preserving the historical and architectural fabric and look of our urban areas.
In quantifying the environmental benefits of this initiative, it is estimated the solar panels will lead to an annual reduction of 9.3 metric tons of carbon emission. Furthermore, the energy generated by these solar panels will equate to the annual planting of around 413 mature trees.
Ashville and White Buildings commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy efficiency to encompass significant works to improve people’s working environment,” stated Andrew Oliver, Asset Manager at Ashville “This installation of solar panels is just one facet of our larger scheme of works aimed at enhancing the comfort, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of our office building.”
The nearly completed renovation project encompasses a multitude of improvements, including a newly revamped reception area, a dedicated deli and business lounge, multiple break out areas, upgraded glazing, a new, insulated roof, and aesthetic enhancements throughout the entire scheme. This comprehensive approach underscores our dedication to creating a dynamic and sustainable workspace for our employees and visitors alike. Our aim is to create the best working environment in Southampton whilst also ensuring the environmental credentials of this building match this.
We’re excited for people to see the new look and facilities we have to offer as we enter this new improved phase for an already award-winning office building. We expect to be officially launching all the new material with more information on these changes in the very near future and are also now close to our aim of securing an EPC A rating and BREEAM Excellent Accreditation for White Building.
